Staples Cabinet Makers Introduces “Green” Handcrafted Furniture

Master Craftsman and Eco-Preservationist Designs and Creates One-of-a-Kind Furniture Art from Wood Reclaimed from Razed Homes, Barns and Mills throughout New England

PLAINVILLE, MA - July 5, 2007 – Staples Cabinet Makers announces their Green Furniture.  Master craftsman and furniture forensics expert maker Stephen Staples, co-owner of Staples Cabinet Makers, specializes in designing and making eco-friendly furniture using reclaimed wood from barns, mills and homes throughout New England that are being razed for newer land development.  Staples reclaims this rare and historic wood and breathes new life into each one-of-a-kind table or furniture art.

Staples Cabinet Makers green furniture is built to last for generations, without harming the environment. “Time is truly the best craftsman,” says Staples.  “It thrills me to know that my customer’s grandchildren’s grandchildren will be able use the same table made from this wonderful durable reclaimed wood. We even use soy-based varnishes that emit no or low VOCs (volatile organic compounds), which release breathable gas when applied, diminish air quality, and may be detrimental to your health.”

The art of building reclaimed wood furniture, which is an environmentally ‘green’ craft, utilizes old growth lumber that provides a distinctive medium for master craftsmen and artisans.  The tight grain from slow growing old growth lumber has produced a dense, strong and exquisite wood.  Today, however, much of the remaining live old growth lumber in the United States is protected, making it difficult or impossible to obtain this wood commercially.  Old growth wood has a beauty that can never be found in newer commercial wood; its grain, deep color (patina), strength and texture are incomparable.

Stephen and his wife, Christine Staples, opened Staples Cabinet Makers more than 30 years ago as a small antique furniture-refinishing studio.  Today, they produce some of the most sought after tables and furniture art in the country.
