Staples Cabinet Makers Offers Exceptional Heirloom Furniture Making Service Master Craftsman and Preservationist Designs and Creates One-of-a-Kind Furniture Art from Customer’s Familial Reclaimed Wood to be Passed Down to Future Generations PLAINVILLE, MA - March 28, 2006 – Staples Cabinet Makers announces a new distinctive heirloom furniture service for customers who want a custom-designed and hand-built piece so that memories can be seen, touched and cherished daily. Stephen Staples, co-owner of Staples Cabinet Makers, is delighted to use the customer’s own reclaimed wood, which usually has great sentimental value to a family, and transform it into a beautiful and priceless piece, usually as a table, kitchen island or armoire. Master craftsman and furniture maker, Stephen Staples of Staples Cabinet Makers, specializes in designing and making furniture using reclaimed wood from barns, mills and homes throughout New England that are being razed for newer land development. Staples reclaims this rare and historic wood and gives it new life in each one-of-a-kind table or piece of furniture that he builds. “Rather than choosing a table from one of our showrooms, we sometimes find that the customer would like us to examine wood from the door of their grandmother’s old home or their father’s workbench for consideration in the construction of their ‘new’ custom farm table,” says Stephen Staples. “If the wood passes muster, we’re happy to provide this service for customers.” “My entire family was moved to tears upon seeing the transformation of my dad’s old workbench into a table for my new home that I’m building,” said customer, Dan Criag, whose workbench to table metamorphosis was chronicled on New England Cable News’ show, New England Dream House. “My father passed a few years ago, and I wanted a part of my old life put into my new home, and I’m thankful to Stephen (Staples) that he was able to bring the cherished memories of my childhood of spending time with my dad at his workbench and put them right into my kitchen for us, as a family, to experience everyday.” This environmentally ‘green’ craft utilizes reclaimed old growth lumber that provides a distinctive medium for master craftsmen and artisans. The tight grain found in old growth lumber produces a dense, strong and beautiful wood. Today, however, much of the old growth lumber in the United States is protected, making it difficult or impossible, to obtain this wood commercially. “Old growth wood has a beauty that can never be found in newer commercial wood, its grain, deep color (patina), strength and texture are incomparable -- time is truly the best craftsman,” says Staples. “It thrills me to know that my customer’s grandchildren’s grandchildren will be able use the same table made from this wonderful durable reclaimed wood.” Stephen and his wife, Christine Staples, opened Staples Cabinet Makers more than 30 years ago as a small antique furniture-refinishing studio. Today, they produce some of the most sought after tables and furniture art in the country.
