More than 30 years ago, Stephen and Christine Staples founded Staples Cabinet Makers as a small, furniture refinishing workshop in Plainville, Massachusetts. Stephen Staples has spent three decades studying his medium, refining  and perfecting his finishes, and mastering his craft, and today, he produces some of the most unique and sought-after furniture art in the country.

Both Stephen and Christine have learned that special furniture starts with special wood. Old growth lumber is the finest wood available to craftsmen and artisans – The wood is air dried, dense, heavy, strong and beautiful. However the protection of old growth trees in the United States makes obtaining this wood commercially difficult, and often impossible. But Stephen discovered that many of the old homes, barns and mills in New England that are being torn down to make way for new development are a wonderful source of rare, historic and beautiful old growth posts, beams and boards. The wood that Stephen reclaims from these structures offers not only incomparable beauty, but having stood for centuries, each board holds its own story, and the unique pieces that Stephen creates helps add to the legacy of this magnificent wood.

Co-founder, owner and master craftsman Stephen Staples has more than 30 years of professional experience restoring antique furniture, performing historical architectural millwork, developing unique finishes, and studying time-tested joinery and construction methods used by early New England craftsman as well as those by more contemporary artisans from around the world. He and the skilled craftsmen he employs apply their skills in making Stephen’s inspired vision a reality.
