CREATION LIVE EDGE SOFA TABLE

One day a customer came into our shop and said she was looking for a very unique table to put behind her leather sofa.  She needed something that would be the focal point of the room.  Being an artist herself, she had a very open mind and really wanted something outrageous!  As we looked around the shop full of a vast inventory of antique fragments and antique woods, I remembered a brown ash slab that had the most beautiful wood grain I have seen in a long time.  Once I wet it to show her the grain, it was love at first sight.  She said "That's it!  I love it".  She didn't want to tell me what to build for the base knowing that when you try to direct an artist, the artist will lose their creativity.  After a lot of careful deliberation, I created a base for this unique top that one can say is in the style of the famous woodworker, George Nakashima.   I made the legs from brown ash slabs like the top.  Then used an antique buggy shaft as a cross member between the two brown ash ends.  To hold the buggy shaft securely, I used old black iron pintles, which is a wonderful color contrast to the beautiful golden brown ash.  My only regret with this project is that I could not take it home myself!  Ah, once again, Furniture Art from reclaimed materials that cannot be duplicated.
